Hilsa Bracelet - Bangladesh
My motif is about Hilsa fish, the rivers and the sustainability of the fishermen. My idea is that if we have more fish in river, the fisher men can better sustain their families, and be able to send their children to school. The fish are decreasing due to the rise of dams created in india, which does not let enough water though. This creates a problem for the Hilsa fish as they can only lay eggs in high speed waters.
To us Bangalees, Hilsa isn’t just a fish. It's an integral part of our culture and heritage. We eat Hilsa for our celebration of the new year, phela baishakh. Thousand of fishermen live their life by catching fish, but now they have very less to catch. Help me fundraise to help my community & the fishermen of bangladesh with this ever-growing problem.
