Food
Now remember each chihuahua has it's own sensitive stomach, so please be aware of their stomach.
No fryed meats.
When you Momma starts nursing she will need EXTRA CALCIUM in her diet, good sources of calcium are salmon with bones, sardines with bones, plain yogurt, and soy beans (edamame). Puppy food is higher in calcium than regular dog food. You can also add puppy milk replacer in her food. Please let your Nursing Chihuahua eat whenever she wants.
If you live in an area with a lot of ticks you can also add about a 1/4teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to her food or water and this will help. Ticks and fleas do not like acidic blood.
**1. During Lactation we gave Cocoa a mix of different sources for high calcium, this yummy dinner had high quality puppy wet food, sardines with bone, boiled chicken , soy beans, 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of puppy milk replacer.
**2. We also gave Cocoa raw egg with a little drop of honey this will help with repairing her organs and give her energy to feed her 5 puppies.
**3 even though you give your chihuahua these healthy meals please give your chihuahua calcium tablet to prevent eclampsia "milk fever", but only when your Chihuahua starts nursing.

Love
Love and Care
Make sure that you give your chihuahua lots of love and care. She will be a lot more sensitive than normal so try to keep a quiet environment for her. You can still groom her but you have to be very gentle with her. Look for ticks on her body it's very important that you get as much ticks off as possible. Don't wash your nursing chihuahua just wipe her down with a wet cloth instead. You want to decrease stress as mush as possible. Often pet and love your chihuahua she needs as much love as possible. Your Chihuahua will also have discharge from her uterus for about 1-2wekks. It will smell a little stinky around her, but she is just cleaning herself out.
Possible Vet Expenses
Make sure you are prepared for possible vet expenses. Like Vet visits if your Mamma Chihuahua gets eclampsia or doesn't want to feed her puppies.
Danger Signs in Nursing
ECLAMPSIA "Milk Fever"
eclampsia symptoms
Can include restlessness, nervousness, excitement and signs of stress such as unexplained panting. With heavy panting and drooling a lot. These symptoms may dissipate into lethargy. The dog begins walking with a stiff gait and can have muscle tremors. Her muscles may feel rigid. She eventually becomes weak enough to have problems walking.Walking like she is drunk. The dog may wobble and seem disoriented, and might lose all interest in the puppies.
Prevention
Dog owners can prevent eclampsia by not providing calcium supplements until the dog has given birth and is lactating. Pregnant chihuahuas should be fed well-balanced food of good quality.
Treatment
For eclampsia in dogs focuses on returning blood calcium levels to normal. This usually includes providing a slow drip of intravenous calcium and preventing the dog from continuing to nurse the puppies, which will need to be hand-fed. The veterinarian may prescribe oral calcium supplements along with vitamin D supplements, which help the dog's body absorb calcium
If your chihuahua experiences any of these dangers you should call your vet immediately.
